Digital Storytelling trouble
I confess I am having an extremely hard time with the Digital storytelling assignment. Maybe because I don't have a classroom, so I'm trying to figure out how to incorporate DS into a professional development session or into assessments and data. I am waiting for inspiration to strike but my time is ticking by quickly. Anyone else in the same boat? Any suggestions? What would you want to see as elementary school PD?

Hi, I was a bit stumped too. All the ideas I came up with just seemed to similar to what I had already worked on. Then, I remembered that part of digital storytelling is to make it 'personal' so I started to think about what my students were studying in their various subjects and what I could contribute to conversations they were having that I had a personal connection to. So my fifth graders in my school are studying WW2 and the effects of war and my family was personally affected by that war and it has shaped the way I am today. So I am using family pictures to tell my digital story and then my students will have a better idea of how that war affected families then and now. I am hoping that my digital story will be a start to many more digital stories from other teachers in our school.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was stumped in a previous class, I resorted to making a presentation overview of book titled "Hold Onto Your Kids". It is a good psychology review of children's developmental need to connect with responsible adults. I looked at is a good PD for teachers because sometimes teachers are the most available adults to their students and they must fill that role in child's development. Good luck!
